Pride…cancerous

(James 3:13) Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the MEEKNESS OF WISDOM.

starter

My starter went out on my truck not too long ago. It was covered under warranty but I had a bad experience with my mechanic the last time I dealt with him. To get the starter through warranty I needed to go to the shop because the shop purchased it. To make a long story short, I decided to buy it out of pocket and fix it myself (because I still had to pay him and wait for his availability and continue to do business with him).

In this repair there is a long wire that extends from the battery all the way down to the starter. So, the battery and the starter are connected by way of that long wire. Now we know that a battery is full of power because sparks will pop up from it when it is tested.

Since the battery and the starter are connected, if I try to unscrew the starter with a wrench or with a socket, sparks will fly! Matter fact, they’ll fly enough to start a fire! So, in order safely perform this repair, it is best to simply unplug the battery and then climb under the vehicle and take off the starter. That way, sparks won’t fly.

The Bible says that wisdom is rooted in meekness. (Gentleness, humility, being mild mannered and willing to forgive and bear with people.) We attempt to solve problems with “wisdom” but we do not go about it with meekness.

In order to solve problems – especially the ones that involve people, we have to unplug our pride. If we do not unplug our pride, our pride is going to create sparks in the attempt to repair.

Pride is connected to foolishness. We can’t do a wise thing while foolishness is still connected. Do the repair with meekness. O God… Have mercy.

About The Holy Spirit

Before Jesus ascended into heaven He told the disciples in Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.”

The Holy Spirit is not our pet. He is not a dog in that when we pull out a “Scoobie Snack” or bend over and “kiss the air a few times” He will come wagging His tail.

pix218

He is not a big furry cat like Garfield. We cannot say, “Here kitty kitty kitty,” and BOOM there’s a great move of the Spirit!

pix219

On the contrary, things work in reverse. We’re the pets. We wag our tail and eat out of His hand. We keep our eyes open looking for Him to show up and make our day! Jesus said, “But you will receive power WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES.”

Hard To Bless

pix204

A friend of mine, Rev Dewey Allen, called me and invited me to attend a youth conference they were having at their church. What I know about Reverend Allen is, whenever he call about something kingdom-related, it’s something awesome! I have an awesome time in the Lord every time I accept his invites.

So I rounded up a hand full of youth – about 4 or five – and we went to the conference, which was very empowering! The church gave away gifts, and two of the youth I brought won tickets to the Astros game!

One of the young men gave me his tickets because he was unable to go on the day of the game. I was unable to go on that day too because my family and I were scheduled to be on family vacation that day. So I took the tickets anyway because I wanted to bless someone with them.

To make a long story short, I had a hard time giving those tickets away. I tried giving them to my neighbor but he didn’t answer the door lol. My cousin, who had been a blessing to me… I wanted to bless him with them but he was out of town. The list goes on and on. I was frustrated that it was difficult to bless someone with free tickets to the Astros and White Sox game.

Likewise, God wants to bless us. He gets frustrated because He longs to bless us, but we are so disobedient and uncooperative with Him.

God Speaks To The Unsaved

pix203

If you have Facebook, you know what it’s like to get “notifications.” After a few hours have passed, if you check your phone it is very likely that you have a new Facebook notification. Maybe someone’s birthday is today; maybe someone posted in a group you’re in; maybe someone tagged you and 45 others in a post that you’re not even interested in; or maybe someone clicked like on one of your selfies, but you should get a notification after a few hours have passed.

When God saved us as a result of us putting our faith in His Son (The Lord Jesus Christ), He then put His Spirit in us to seal the deal and confirm our salvation. Now that you and I have the Holy Spirit living inside of us, we get notifications from God. He gives us news we can use. He tells us what He wants us to know and what He feels we need to know at a given time. He gives us notifications.

When you’re logged on to Facebook, you automatically get notifications. When you are a Christian, you automatically get notifications from the Holy Spirit that God wants you, as a child of His, to have.

God is all of our Creator, whether we are saved or not. If I log out of Facebook, I won’t get any notifications. However, there is an app called “Messenger” that allows me to receive  a message directly to my cell phone – whether I’m logged on to Facebook or not. When I’m not logged on to Facebook, I don’t have to concern myself with Facebook notifications. However, I do realize it is possible for me to receive a message even though I’m logged off simply because I have installed the “Messenger App.”

One may be unsaved and disconnected from God, but much activity is still going on with God and the people of God. That person just isn’t getting the notifications. Believers are saying hallelujah! Believers are saying “God is awesome!” They’re getting notifications.

But do know this: Just like you can receive a message in Facebook  through the  “Messenger App” when you’re not logged in to Facebook, an unbeliever can receive a word from God even though he is not saved. God has put a type of “Messenger App” in everyone He created so that He can tell them to choose life or death.

“I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” (Luke 13:3) Such messages come to unbelievers through God’s messenger app He installed in us.

Eternal God

pix202

When you see my three children there’s absolutely no doubt that I’m not a virgin.

When you look at the earth, the sun, the moon and stars…there’s absolutely no doubt God is real and eternal and that He has supernatural power.

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Romans 1:20)

There’s no excuse for not believing in God.

On Judging

pix201

If I see a man robbing a bank, I’m not gonna stop him.

If some driver is speeding on the highway, I’m not gonna chase him and tell him to slow down.

If a young man violates his parole, I won’t sanction him.

Why not? I know the law…but why won’t I get involved in any of those affairs? Because I’m not a judge. I’m no law enforcer. I know the law that I may obey the law, not enforce it or be a judge concerning it.

Jesus Christ is appointed to do all the judging and enforcing. I need to focus on my own cases.

“There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you – who are you to judge your neighbor?” (James 4:12)

Pacifiers

(1John 2:15) Do not love the world or the things in the world.

pix204

Some babies have the cutest pacifiers. It’s so cute when a baby has a pacifier. But as that child nears and surpasses two years old it becomes a problem. Mama has to take the pacifier. What happens is, the big baby cries and cries and cries, and finally mama goes against her will and gives that child the pacifier so he/she can go to sleep finally.

God be trying to take sin from us…He knows we should be done with this sin by now but we throw fits when we can get it. It’s just a “spiritual pacifier.”

Loving-kindness

(Psalm 63:3) Your loving-kindness is better than life itself.

pix205

Early in life I discovered that life doesn’t make sense. Losing loved ones early in life, being in danger, getting injured, numerous failed relationships…all taught me that life just doesn’t make sense. I became very disappointed and vexed.

But I must admit, this disappointment has helped me to love Jesus all the more. Life made no sense. A child should lose his grandmother – that doesn’t make sense. “Where is my dad?” That doesn’t make sense. I keep having headaches while other kids are playing – that doesn’t make sense!

I’m so glad that His loving-kindness is better than life itself.

Gym

“Let perseverance have her perfect work.” (James 1:4)

pix206

I walked around the gym doing nothing. Mainly because my right shoulder had been previously injured in the past. Any upper-body work I do, I use light weight and do plenty of reps to ensure I don’t reinjure my shoulder. So, much of my working out involves rehabbing that shoulder.

In our walk with God, we have some areas that are fragile. Weak. Broken. But God knows how to do rehab and therapy. But do know that we serve a God who, one of these days, will add another plate.

Just like weight lifters add another plate, God will add another plate on top of what you are already struggling through. That’s part of being in the gym.

Come To The Water

pix202

(Ecclesiastes 2:10-11) Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, for my heart rejoiced in all my labor; and this was my reward from all my labor. Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done and on the labor in which I had toiled; and indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun.

Jesus is a river in the center of the desert. That’s because everything in life is unfulfilling and leaves you empty and THIRSTY for something more worthwhile. On top of this, life has the habit of continually rubbing you the wrong way in that you have no solutions but to run to the water.

Don’t fight it. Go! Run to the water…
